Our small town beautification team are an enthusiastic and dedicated bunch and their efforts achievements around Moonta and the surrounding District over the past several plus years have helped in no small way to transform the town from a somewhat tired and neglected state to a neat and tidy appearance.
In the process the team have put in more than 8000 volunteer hours and picked up a KESAB Tidy Town Encouragement award and four consecutive Special Commendation awards.
While its always good to receive some acknowledgement for their efforts, for them its really the friendships they have forged and the satisfaction of knowing that they have made a difference and helped to restore some community spirit and town pride.
The Team of 8 meets each Thursday around 8.30am at the Blyth Terrace entrance to the Council Refuse Depot and puts in around 3 hours cleaning up the town perimeter, parks and roadsides, watering young trees and shrubs, planting, pruning and landscaping and fixing fences and other repair work.
The Team came together after the break today and agreed to split into two groups; one heading to the Moonta Bay Carpark garden to attack the couch which had invaded the flower beds. The other headed for the Wheal Hughes Mine site to recover bench seats and picnic settings which had been donated by community groups and produced by the Moonta Community Shed to support the now defunct Wheal Hughes Mine project.
The seats and settings have now been relocated to the Old Railway Building park to provide more seating for the National Trust's Station Market in March.
It was good to see Pamela join the group.
