Its been a long wait, 4 years to be exact, since our festive garlands appeared on George Street, but today, they are up again.
The arrangements are not the same as before. Rather than being fixed to buildings, our garlands are now supported by street banner poles provided by the District Council of the Copper Coast.
The acquisition of the poles has been a lengthy one and the final product bears little semblance to the design we were looking at earlier in the year. The poles are fibre glass and white in colour and, as you would expect, there is a good deal of flexing happening but we have been assured by the District Council that they will do the job.
We were not in a position to consider Christmas banners for this year's festive celebrations but we will be looking at banner options to promote local community events early in the new year.
We thank District Council CEO, Peter Harder and his staff, for overcoming obstacles along the way to have street banner poles up in time for the Moonta Christmas Pageant. We also thank Richard Hopkins who represented the Progress Association and oversighted the project from the Moonta end.
