Town Beautification at the Crossroads

22 September 2011

The full strength Town Beautification team were back in force at Milne Terrace this week, finishing off their work down to the Port Hughes Road corner. The conditions were testing with hot conditions and a stiff northerly wind but did this deter our tenacious bunch...... never!!

They achieved their objective of filling the trailer for another trip to the dump.

Mind you, the trips to the dump will be coming to an end soon with the District Council's decision to close the Moonta dump for cost saving reasons.

Can't seriously see our little band of volunteers foregoing their traditional milkshake break to drive down to Kadina to deposit their trailer loads of rubbish.

Hope the Council's austerity measures take into account the thousands of hours local volunteers put in removing the accumulated rubbish as they go and helping to keep the town and district neat and tidy. We have seen what can happen on the odd occasion the rubbish is not collected but is left on the roadside for the Council to collect. We might have to get used of it ( thats if the Team doesn't call it a day ).
