Moonta Progress Association Community Grants tally passes $100,000

26 December 2009

Success in attracting a further 3 government grants and another $16,000 over recent weeks has seen Moonta Progress Association's community grant tally pass the $100,000 mark.

Many local community projects have been financed with grant money, beginning with the school skateboard shelter back in 2003 and including a range of computing facilities to support the Community News and Whats On Moonta website. Others include a tandem trailer and range of equipment and tools for town beautification, a trailer mounted water tank, the Moonta Community Activity Centre complex comprising a Community Resource Office, a Community Shed, woodworking and metalwork facilities, a timber storage annex and paintshop, a large range of workshop tools, plant and equipment, a large multi-purpose Community Activity shed and a BBQ and Recreation Area.

The Progress Association has also assisted other local clubs and groups to win grants and improve their community facilities for locals and visitors to the area to benefit from and enjoy.

Now the Progress Association's focus is on attracting funding to support the 150 Years of Copper Celebrations and things have started positively with a $10,000 grant from Arts SA for the high profile and exciting Opera in the Mines performances of "I Pagliacci" in November 2010.

Those in the know will tell you that the grant process is extremely time consuming and very competitive and that winning grants is difficult to say the least. Need less to say, we are very proud of our 90% success rate over the past 6 years.
