The National trust of South Australia manages historic sites, natural reserves important museums and folk history collections. Trust membership provides free entry to historic places around the world.
The Moonta Branch operates the Moonta Tourist Information Centre at the Old Railway Station and its volunteers staff and maintain local National Trust properties and Tourism attractions within the Moonta Mines State Heritage Area, including the Moonta Mines Tourist Train and the nearby Wheal Hughes Mine Tours in conjunction with the Moonta Progress Association. The Moonta Branch also hosts the popular Moonta Twilight Markets.
The Moonta Branch has a local custodian responsibility for the following National Trust properties;
- Hughes Pump House
- Miners Cottage and Heritage Garden
- Moonta Mines Public School ( Moonta Mines Museum )
- Moonta Mines Sweet Shop, and
- Moonta Mines Heritage Area
