A large crowd filled the historic Moonta Mines Church on Sunday to enjoy a memorable and moving Sing Along Messiah performance to celebrate Moonta and the Copper Coast's Sesquicentenary year.
There were many highlights with stellar individual performances by international soloists Ruth Bormann, Ian Vayne, Guila Tiver and Patrick Power, a strong and spirited choral display by the combined YP Community Choir, an all standing and singing Hallelujah Chorus and a very fine performance by the youthful and very talented Elder Conservatorium Orchestra led superbly by Keith Crellin.
The superlatives continued to flow after the event among the many who remained outside the Church to share their enjoyment with others and savour the experience. Several commented that the Church somehow came to life with the music, the singing and the near capacity audience, so reminiscent of years long past. It was a fitting tribute to the role of the Church in the lives of Cornish pioneer families and their favourite pastime of music and song.
Congratulations to Moonta's 150th Steering Committee on a most successful event and a special thank you to the Moonta Mines Church ladies and friends who rallied together once again to provide a magnificent luncheon for all the performers and support staff.
