Moonta 150 Years of Copper Celebrations for 2010

Opera at the Mines - "I Pagliacci"

The Copper Coast celebrates 150 years since the discovery of copper with "Opera at the Mines", at the Moonta Mines Museum. Music, especially singing, was an important activity among the early miners and opera has been sung in South Australia since 1861.

I Pagliacci is one of the world's most popular operas and this stunning open air production is set at the Moonta Mines Museum - a National Trust site - with authentic scenery and costumes. From the comfort of your seat you will be taken back in time 100 years to experience the rich heritage and history of Australia's little Cornwall juxtaposed against Leoncavallo's passionate opera.

Sponsored by Arts SA and supported by State Opera South Australia, the opera is proudly presented by the 150th Anniversary Committee of the Moonta and District Progress Association.
